Peer reviewed papers from the 2005 conference Speculation and Innovation, held at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.

Introduction

The Speculation and Innovation (SPIN) conference was held in April 2005 and hosted by the Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. It focussed on various issues associated with creative work, research and the higher education context.

A call for papers was sent in 2004 around the general categories of knowledge judgement, collaboration and interdisciplinary research. Proposals were received from various institutions in Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. It is significant to note that in the university environments of each of these countries, discussions on practice led research are important issues.

The conference papers accepted for publication underwent a double blind peer review process. Three themes emerged from the compilation of the accepted papers:

1. Embedded knowledge

2. Knowledge impact

3. Knowledge relationships

The keynote addresses by Dr. Kate Oakley (UK), Professor Paul Carter (Melb. Australia), Professors Arun Sharma and Rod Wissler (Qld. Australia) and editorial comments provide the context, international significance and background for the conference papers.

Each paper is downloadable as a PDF. Please refer to our citation link should you wish to cite any of the papers.
